Welcome to the mecca of skiing. St Moritz attracts visitors from all over the world who want to beat the snow by (cross-country) skiing, bobsledding or trekking. No matter whether this is your first time on skis or whether you were born with them, the area has slopes for both the beginner and the expert. There are good accommodation facilities and it won’t be difficult to find a place where you can enjoy the après-ski. St Moritz is also known for its mineral springs.

Intercity connections lead to Chur (change train) continuing with the Rhätische Bahn directly to St. Moritz. www.rhb.ch
from Milano: "Bernina Express" - take train to Lecco - Tirano - from where the scenic and picturesque ride brings you up to the Bernina Pass - St. Moritz. Long ride but nice !

From the north part of Switzerland take the highway A 13 as far as Thusis - from there the roads lead into Engadine valley over the Julier Pass. During the winter season drivers have the choice of driving over the pass or loading the car on the train from Thusis to Samedan.

St Moritz has plenty of apres-ski for those who don't feel exhausted after a hard day's work. The big hotels often have bars where the singing and dancing continues until the first get out of bed again to go skiing. Besides that, there are several discos and clubs where you can entertain yourself.

Il Campanile di Sankt Moritz
St. Moritz (Sankt Moritz in tedesco, San Murezzan in romancio, San Maurizio in Italiano) è una popolare località di villeggiatura dell'Engadina, nel Canton Grigioni in Svizzera. Offre diversi impianti di risalita e piste per lo sci e diversi sentieri per escursioni in montagna. Nelle vicinanze si trova la Cresta Run, una pista per bob e slittino di fama mondiale.
La popolazione è di circa 5.100 abitanti, cui si aggiungono circa 3.000 lavoratori stagionali. La ricettività alberghiera e delle case in affitto offre un totale di 13.000 posti letto.

Geografia [modifica]
St. Moritz è situato in Alta Engadina, sulla sponda sinistra dell'Inn, affacciato sul lago omonimo. Dista 49 km da Chiavenna, 57 km da Tirano, 77 km da Coira e 118 km da Landeck. È servito dalla stazione ferroviaria omonima della Ferrovia retica, all'inizio delle linee dell'Albula e del Bernina.
Il punto più elevato del comune è la cima del Piz Güglia (3380 m), sul confine con Silvaplana.

A St. Moritz il tedesco e il romancio (variante putér, cioè dell'Alta Engadina) sono le lingue ufficiali. È significativamente diffusa la lingua italiana, parlata da quasi un abitante su quattro (circa 22% della popolazione).
